Welcome to the consumerist post of miscellaneous things I recommend!*
I’m flying soon! Which means I have to pack. And packing gives me anxiety (just like everything else in life) so here is an abbreviated list of things I’m bringing.
*I am not remotely close to an influencer in any way so I am unfortunately not receiving any percentage of sales for these as much as I wish that was the case.
Big Bud Press Trousers – UM these are my new favorite pants of all time. They’re very comfortable, have huge pockets while also being super stylish and go with everything in my closet. They’re also ethically made, so absolute 10/10. I own them in black and khaki grey cause I’m not adventurous but they do come in a ton of other colors.
Outdoor Voices Zoom Short with POCKETS – I just got these and oh my god they fit perfectly and they have POCKETS. I’m so ready to bike around all summer in these and not worry about my phone falling out.
Girlfriend Compressive Leggings with POCKETS – I got these on sale or else they’re kinda pricey for leggings but honestly pretty worth it since they’re so comfy and they have POCKETS. CAN YOU TELL I LIKE POCKETS. Girlfriend is also a super eco-friendly brand and their clothes are all made from recycled materials so it’s worth the splurge if you can afford it.
Jon Klassen Baseball Cap – Jon Klassen is one of my favorite contemporary picture book author/illustrators of all time so I had to get this cap when it came out. It also matches my khaki trousers perfectly. Plus all the proceeds go to charity so win win!
Bucket Hat Pattern – I made my own bucket hat because I didn’t want to spend $30 on a hat. I used this pattern and it came out perfectly and only cost me $8 worth of fabric. If you want to give sewing a shot, this is a good project for beginners like me.
Columbia Packable Rain Jacket – I really needed a rain jacket and our upcoming trip to Yosemite finally coaxed me into buying one. This one is super light so it’ll be perfect for hiking! Hopefully?
Olay Retinol Night Cream – Supposedly the best drugstore retinol cream? I just got it but after one night my skin is literally so soft so I assume it’s working.
Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam – Been using this face wash for years, it is the GOAT. I have super oily skin and it actually makes my face feel clean and not greasy.
Rare Beauty Blush – I love blush and I totally caved and gave into the hype. It’s super pigmented and you only need a tiny dot so I’m planning to pass this blush down to my great great grandchildren to wear in the apocalypse.
KissMe Heroine Liquid Eyeliner – This eyeliner is literally liquid gold. I have the oiliest face and it’s the only eyeliner that stays put for me.
Mini Watercolor Set – I bought this set in 2016 and it’s held up amazingly. I’m removing the watercolor pans though and exchanging it for gouache paint cause I want to try out more gouache plein air! Everyone has been recommending that I hit up Case in Making in SF so I’m probably going to buy another mini painting kit while I’m there.
Mini Muji Sketchbook – You know I love Muji sketchbooks and I have them in every size. I’m planning on bringing a little mini pocket one on this trip to doodle in.
Handbook Travelogue Sketchbook – The best little sketchbook for painting and mixed media.
And that’s it!
I will inevitably end up packing more things because I am an over-packer but I got bored drawing these so I didn’t want to draw more. I’m still deciding if I’ll have any posts scheduled for my vacation or this newsletter will take a little break while I’m gone. I’ve been breaking out in hives that won’t go away (supposedly a common post Covid symptom) so we’ll see if I can draw up any posts in my delirious Benadryl haze!
My Essentials for Traveling
Loved seeing everything you're packing!! I'm an over-packer as well 😅 Would highly recommend packing a puffer jacket if you've got one-- when the winds pick up in our fair city, it's a life saver. Hope the hives go away soon!
