Just a short update today about some small things in my life. Been a bit tired and burnt out from crunching out finals for this book so I haven’t had much motivation to work on little comics for this newsletter or to do anything besides veg out and rewatch the Office on the couch after work.
You’re probably wondering: “Why Lian, Why! You always talk about taking it easy and not stressing yourself out with work! Why are you pushing yourself on this book?” to which I answer with the points below:
Holy shit, is my schedule packed tight this year. I mapped out a bunch of things I have planned for this year and it’s intense so I got a little freaked out. There’s book releases, window displays, book events, trips I want to take, books to be finished, books to be started, merch to be made! Oh brother, it’s time to strap in for a very very busy year.
My family want me to visit them in Taiwan end of February through to mid-April. I haven’t been back in around three years and I miss it dearly. I really really don’t want to lug back my painting supplies so if I can get the bulk of this book painted then I can enjoy my time in Taiwan a bit more!
To be honest, I am also just curious to see how fast I can get this book painted. So far it’s going pretty well as I’m averaging at about a spread a day since the spreads are a bit simpler. I have around 6 spreads left, but that’s not including the cover so we’ll see…
In some good news, I have started walking around the house now without my walking boot! It feels incredibly odd and my right leg is a million times weaker. When I stood up to take a shower for the first time in months, it felt like that scene in Elf:
I hope everyone who celebrates had a great Lunar New Year yesterday. We didn’t really grow up celebrating it much and I was on my period so we just stayed in and watched some movies. The shooting at Monterey Park really put a damper on my mood and was just another reminder that I don’t want to stay here in the long term. Now… to just find the time to get my Canada application in.
Although, did you hear? They are apparently trying to push towards privatizing Ontario healthcare, which is JUST GREAT! That totally wasn’t the province I wanted to move to and one of my main incentives for moving was for public healthcare… hah hah hah… We’ll see.
Until next time fellas!
France has lots of private sectors in healthcare, but they still have public healthcare accessible to all and the system works well for rich and poor alike. Increasing privatization doesn't always mean Americanized privatization where they just shut down all public sectors and everything is private. Although, we are a lot like America so hopefully we don't follow in their footsteps... Let's hope this all works out in the end, or at least we vote out Doug in the next election.
Great content ❤️❤️❤️
