Some sketchbook pages from my trip to Toronto

Last week I decided to take an impromptu trip to Toronto! I had never been and had always wanted to go so I decided to bite the bullet and take the damn trip before summer ends. I had plenty of fun, so much so that I didn’t draw a whole lot, but here are the pages I did draw when I was there.

Day 1

I was an idiot and booked my flight for 10am thinking I’d arrive in Toronto with the full day but I didn’t take into account that I’d have to be at the airport at 7am. My anxiety didn’t let me sleep the whole night so I was absolutely exhausted by the time I got there.

I caved and bought a fancy Away suitcase right before my flight so I could feel like a fancy traveler.

Day 2

I walked over 20,000 steps from my hotel in the downtown area to High Park. In the afternoon I had a big picnic in the park! Last year I started an online group for picture book illustrators and it was so wonderful to meet those in the group who live in the Toronto area. We had a super deluxe picnic set up by Ryookyung after Anoosha won a giveaway for a free picnic set up. Everyone brought different foods and we had a massive potluck together.

Day 3

I gassed myself out a bit early and was feeling incredibly crap the morning of my 3rd day there but then I went to Sugar Beach and took a nap by the water and felt a little better. Then at night my bestie Monica arrived and we went to Anoosha’s wedding!

Day 4

I have no sketches from this day because it was fully packed from morning to night. Monica and I got up to all sorts of Toronto shenanigans together that I did get on video…

Day 5

I flew out! And faced 10000 delays with my flight! I was supposed to arrive back in NY at 10:30pm but after facing delays at every single part of the journey I got back home at 1am. But finally I’m back and ready to get back to work.

As I mentioned, I filmed a whole bunch of clips on my trip that I’m planning to put together as a little way to memorialize the trip. Would you guys be interested in seeing it too?
