I really enjoyed reading this story. Particularly of you talking to yourself in the mirror, really made me laugh out loud. So happy for you and your experience. Hopefully you feel just a little less of an imposter in the future. Although I know it’s an ugly beast and she rears her bitch head every time she gets a chance. Great post!

Aww Lian, I'm so glad to have been a support!!! I'm not surprised you rocked it -- you are courageous and inspiring. So many gems in this post but I can't get over "My stomach was in my ass" hahaha

I really, really appreciate you sharing the play by play of your imposters syndrome. The way imposter syndrome can linger makes it hard to remember why we are invited to participate. I especially liked your pep talk to yourself. I gave a similar one to myself over signing up at our local Y. I hadn’t swam a lap since I was a child, but decided that swimming would be a good way to stay in shape. I marched over there muttering to myself, “Stop being such a baby about this.”

Good luck with the apartment search. We are in London and it’s the same story here. We are currently lying low and hoping our landlord forgets about us and the fact we are still on that “covid” rent.

What a fabulous opportunity! I am glad you survived. They do get easier and being the new kid doesn’t make you an imposter. It just makes you new at this. So wonderful to have many adventures ahead of you!

i loved everything about this post (imposter syndrome relatability! cool events! life updates! shitty nyc living expenses!) but i am most taken with the visceral image of "my stomach was in my ass", how have i never heard this phrase before!!
