Let’s rewind a bit.
The year was 2022.
I was reading
and ‘s Substacks and decided to start one myself:In 2022, it was still the middle of a pandemic:
I was working on my first ever author-illustrator book:
I finally got my green card:
Many of you may not know, but I was severely depressed from around 2017 to 2022. My terrible thoughts swallowed me whole throughout my early twenties. It was only in 2022 that I felt myself slowly come out of the depths of my depression:
I like to think that this Substack had something to do with helping me process my feelings and build a community:
I’ve learnt a lot over the past couple of years:
I’ve worked on countless books:
I‘ve faced my fears over the past three years:
And I won an award :)
I lived in New York for 9 years, and finally left:
I even got married:
I even visited San Francisco, Toronto, Japan, New Zealand & Hawaii during these past couple years.
You guys have been here for all these big moments in my life, and even more beyond these.
I started this newsletter because I was trying to learn how to verbalize my thoughts and claim some agency in my life after years of depression and Covid. It’s grown into something far beyond what I could have imagined.

I’ve met countless people who’ve told me they’re fans of this newsletter and even been stopped in the street because of it (wild experience). I’ve gotten illustration jobs and even done stand up comedy because of this newsletter. What a fun experiment this has turned out to be.
It’s still weird to fathom how many people 10,000 actually is. It still feels like my tiny little corner of the internet where I dump my deepest thoughts.
I’m feeling really lucky to have found a place where people resonate with my funny thoughts, drawings and books. What an exciting life this has turned out to be. I had no idea things would take me here.
In honor of reaching 10k subscribers, I’m offering a 50% discount on 1 year of paid subscriptions!! That means $3 a month or $25 for a year as I know times are tough right now. This offer expires in a month on July 30th, 2025:
If you enjoy this newsletter, I hope you’ll considering supporting me and the work that I make. It takes a lot of time to make content for this newsletter and I deeply appreciate all of you who have chosen to support me already. I make the majority of my income from actual book work and draw this newsletter at night in my free time or on weekends. It’s truly a labor of love.
TBH, this is kind of a test run to see if I should start to offer a lower monthly option for paid subscriptions. I would prefer for paid subscriptions be more of a tip jar for supporting the content I make vs. access to a lot of locked paid content. I’m thinking if enough people are interested in subscribing for a monthly fee of $3 then I may adjust my monthly fee to be a lower option for those who may struggle financially but still want to support!
Anyways, thank you guys so much for these past couple of years.
Thank you for all your comments and your stories.
Thank you for growing with me, laughing with me, and crying with me.
Thank you for being vulnerable with me.
Here’s to many more!
Woohoo!!! Congratulations!
Amazing news, huge congratulations!
Really appreciate the gesture for a discount too. The truth is, I’d love to pay and support SO many artists and authors but in the current climate (I’m in the UK) it’s so hard right now. It’s such a tough balance to tackle — let the artist be paid and paid well vs. locking people out. I like the idea of paid for means extra rather than less than for non subs.
Anyway, I’ve been checking out your work, ordered Oh, Olive and can’t wait to read it to my kids. We are an arty household so I’m sure it will go down so well 💞💞💞
